One of the Society’s aims is to encourage and
undertake research into the history of Molesey
and to record and publish findings from such
research.
Original research by the Society is still in
its infancy. However, based on the suggestions
made at the Society’s inaugural meeting and
subsequent expressions of interest by the
Society’s members, Special Interest Groups have
been established to look into specific topics.
Details of these Special Interest Groups and
their meetings are set out below. If you are
interested in any of these subjects and would
like to participate in the Group’s activities,
please contact the respective individuals
detailed below.
Transport
The main aims of the Transport Group are to
ascertain how transport developed in Molesey
over the years and to understand how the history
of transport in the area has affected the lives
of people who lived in Molesey.

gather information, pictures, personal
recollections, etc for use at the Society’s
proposed meeting on Life in Molesey during WW2,
scheduled for November 2010. If you would like

Waterways
Waterways was one of the first Special
Interest Groups to be started by the Society
with the aim of investigating all aspects of the
waterways that have played such an important
part in shaping the history of Molesey, i.e. the
Thames, the Mole and the Ember. This included
not only commercial and pleasure activities but
also the impact of flooding and flood defences.
Regular meetings are no longer held as those who
contributed to this Group’s activities have now
moved on to other topics but the Society
possesses a substantial body of material on this
subject. If you would like to know more about
this topic, please contact: Jenni Haile
