Objectives
The principal aim of the Waterways Group is
to investigate all aspects of the waterways that
have played such an important part in shaping
the history of Molesey, i.e. the Thames, the
Mole and the Ember. This includes not only
commercial and pleasure activities but also the
impact of flooding and flood defences.
Meetings
Meetings are held every 4-5 weeks, usually
at the British Legion Hall in Matham Road at 8
pm. There have been 6 meetings so far. To find

Recent Developments
Activity so far has mainly focused on the Thames
from Platt’s Eyot to Cigarette Island, where the
Mole and Ember add to the flow. Information has
also been obtained on other areas of interest
such as Molesey Bathing Station, Martin’s Boat
Hire, and the hidden River Caundle behind Matham
Manor. Future projects include investigation
of the other islands in the Thames and the work
undertaken by Thames Conservancy to counter the
threat of flooding. Help Needed
New members are always welcome, as are all
contributions of photos or other memories that
will add to our knowledge of the area’s
waterways.
