Thursday, 13th January 2022 Coffee morning at the British Legion at 11am – A Social event and we will be introducing our research project for the year – Tagg’s Island – so start looking out for your items of memorabilia.

Wednesday, 26th January 2022 Our AGM followed by a talk by Norma Millard on The First World War Inscriptions on the war memorials in Molesey.

This will be the date of our next AGM (which will be kept as brief as possible). Followed by Norma speaking about some of those mentioned. She will have her records with her at the meeting to help with any specific queries.

Thursday, 3rd March – Hampton Court Palace Visit with ‘Tour Guide’ Ian Franklin

Ian, a former State Apartment Warder, showed us some of the lesser known aspects of HCP.

We hope to be arranging a further visit with Ian later in the year, so keep an eye open for the date!

MOLESEY LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY EXHIBITION 

Refresh Centre 129 Walton Road East Molesey KT8 0DT 

To celebrate the  fifteenth  anniversary  of  the  foundation  of  the  Society, we are holding an exhibition at which we will display much of the material that we have obtained and prepared during our research over the years. Information will be displayed on each of our  major researched topics – the Floods, Molesey during the Second World War, the Carnival, Sport on  the  Hurst,  Hampton  Court  Bridge,  Molesey  Then  and  Now,  Molesey  Boat Club, Education, the Flood Alleviation Scheme and Molesey’s Enclosure story.  

Entry will be free for Society members.

There will be a charge of £1 for non-members. Refreshments will be available.

Wednesday, 22nd June 2022 – A talk by Pieter Morpurgo – Bushy Park and the Restorations of the Diana Fountain and the Water Gardens

St Lawrence School, East Molesey – 8pm

What connects a river which isn’t a river, a WW2 detonator, ants, a bouncing bomb and a statue moved for the third time? Bushy Park. It has a 4000 year history, a unique Water Gardens, and some of Christopher Wren’s work.  The three sections of Pieter Morpurgo’s talk explains all these questions.
